ENHS Band Staff

Ben Petrmichl, Band Director

Mr. Petrmichl is currently in his 6th year of teaching, and is in his 2nd year as the band director at Elkhorn North High School. His responsibilities include all aspects of the instrumental program as the only band director. He directs the Sound of the Wolfpack Marching Band, Campus Band, Concert Band, pep bands, the varsity jazz band Big Band Wolves, and directs the show choir band ENtourage.

Ben received his Bachelor’s in Music Education from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. During his time at UNL, he was a part of the Cornhusker Marching Band for 4 years, serving as a rank leader and section leader for the baritone section for his last two years in the band. Ben was also a member of the flagship ensemble of the university, the UNL Wind Ensemble for his entire college career where he served as principal euphonium for 5 out of his 7 semesters. Prior to his appointment at ENHS, Ben spent his first year of teaching at Shelby-Rising City Public Schools where he taught 6th-12th grade band and choir for one year during the 2020-2021 school year. His responsibilities included teaching all middle school choirs, high school choir, all middle school bands, high school band, marching band, and pep band. After a terrific year at SRC, he moved back to Omaha and began working at Morton Middle School in Omaha Public Schools. In his three years at Morton, Ben taught 6th-8th grade band, 6th-8th grade orchestra, 6th grade General Music, and 6th grade chorus. During his time at Morton, the ensembles retained great talent and retention and the ensembles have grown exponentially in numbers during his three years.

While teaching full-time at Morton, Ben also had the opportunity to be a music technician for the Sound of the Wolfpack starting in 2021, which was the groups first competitive season. During that time, Ben has also been a music tech at Omaha Northwest High School and Millard North High School. Ben takes great pride in being a part of marching music’s major league, Drum Corps International. As a performer in DCI, Ben performed one season with the Colts Drum and Bugle Corps in the summer of 2019. He was invited to teach on the Brass Staff for the Colts for the summer of 2023, and has been spending his summers teaching there ever since.

During his teaching career, Ben has made many accomplishments inside and outside of the classroom. He has had the incredible opportunity to be a staff member for the Nebraska Ambassadors of Music where he had the opportunity to bring high schoolers from around Nebraska to tour and perform in London, Paris, Switzerland, Germany, and Austria. In the spring of 2025, Ben received the 2025 Jack R. Snider Outstanding Young Band Director award.

Ben takes great pride teaching in the district that he called home all of his life. As an Elkhorn High graduate (2016), he understands the potential that every student in the ENHS band program has and prioritizes excellence in every student. When Ben is not in the band room, he enjoys playing video games, cooking, and spending time outside with close friends and family.
